The 2012 nib Hunter Festival of Sport will be conducted during the July school holidays from Saturday 30th June to Sunday 15th July. The festival, now in its 22nd year, is a highlight of the Hunter Regions calendar and will feature many opportunities for particularly young people to be involved in a great variety of activities. The Hunter Academy of Sport along with various sporting organisations in the region will again co-operate to conduct this annual festival, which has been very well supported by major sponsor nib health funds since its inception (as the nib Games) in 1991. The first sport played at the nib Games in 1991 was netball. Twenty years later the nib Hunter Festival of Sport had developed to include some 100 activities in over 40 different sports for adults and children of all ages. The original idea was to provide school age kids with something to do during the winter school holidays, but now the festival is much more than that. This year's event will feature Come and Try days and coaching clinics in a wide range of sports. Highlights of the festival will include the inter-academy competitions featuring all the NSW regional academies of sport along wath various Sydney metropolitan and NSW country development squads and visitors from interstate. Netball, archery, rugby league, softball, tennis and track and field (athletics) are among the sports that will be featured in these competitions. Last Updated (Monday, 15 August 2011 12:26) |
